How You Can Help

We need your help to continue delivering our programs and services. Shauri Yako Community Youth Support Centre deeply appreciates your interest in supporting our work to support, under prividged children and to control HIV/AIDS in Nyeri, Kenya. We recognize that there are many worthy causes and projects to support. We are therefore grateful for your choice and welcome support at any level.

Our administrative costs are modest at approximately 9 percent of our budget. All contributions are tax deductible, when donated through our partner Presbyterian World Services & Development - Canada. and will be gratefully acknowledged in writing by us. We will also be happy to keep you updated on our progress and programs through our quarterly newsletter.

SYSC commits to:

  • Work with communities, using innovative programs to effectively reach out to children and youth in need.
  • Monitor and evaluate our programs and impact to ensure that highest quality programs are implemented.
  • Use funds responsibly and for the purpose they are intended.

The sustainability of the SYSC programs and projects is very important and depends on the expansion of our centre, developing youth skills training program and income generating project. For this we need adequate and consistent resources to take us to that level.

If you would like to fund our programs, we send you a proposal. To make a donation to support specific SYSC programs, please send a cheque or money order payable to: Shauri Yako Community Youth support Centre, any amount will be appreciated. Another option is bank to bank transfer, please contact us and we will send you bank details. In-kind donations are always welcome.

Individuals and organizations are requested to help in our efforts by becoming a FRIEND OF SHAURI YAKO and support our programs or projects. Any donation amount or in kind will be appreciated. Memorial and Special Gifts

You can make a gift in memory or in honour of a loved one or friend. Often family members, coworkers or civic organizations participate in a group gift. Such gifts can be given as memorials or in commemoration of birthdays, anniversaries, and other significant life events.


SYSC wish list

  1. US $ 12,500 to implement vulnerable youth and women job skills training and HIV/AIDS intervention.
  2. Donation of any amount towards Centre building renovation, see our “Buy a Brick” campaign. Our target is to raise $ 4800
  3. 6 Industrial sewing machines, each at a cost of $ 535 (for skills training program)
  4. 4 Computers, each at a cost of $ 880 (for skills training)
  5. 2 guitars and one amplifier


Library room and book drive

SSYSC small library depends on books donated by individuals. Currently we have very few books, all donated by Friends of Shauri Yako. We would like to request friends, schools, institutions and organizations to help us put up a library room and get additional books. Volunteer opportunities

As volunteer as Shauri Yako Community Youth Support Centre, you can make a significant difference here working hand-in-hand with local people. You will also reap personal rewards by knowing you make a difference through touching lives in your host community.


Volunteer work project at SYSC

  1. HIV/AIDS - Work as a HIV/AIDS outreach and basic health educator.
  2. Outreach - Plan and implement street youth sports, music and arts program.
  3. Teaching tools - Develop interesting and fun environmental education teaching tools - for SYSC's Youth Environmental Protection Program.
  4. Micro Credit Proposal - develop and write a micro credit proposal.
  5. Provide advice - on a income generating projects, suitable for SYSC to help sustain it programs and services.
  6. Volunteers are requested to donate what ever they can afford to support SYSC.


Buy a Brick

Please donate by cheque or money order or bank to bank transfer payable to Shauri Yako Community Youth Support Centre (or the name of a loved one) will be inscribed on a plate and fixed to a brick at Shauri Yako Community Youth Support Centre.

Help support SYSC build a permanent building that will house our programs and create more space for drop-in and accommodation. The project will enhance our ability to support our children, youth and a better service to our communities.

Each KShs: 50,000.00 or $ 675.00 USD to SYSC capital campaign will be recognized on a brass plate affixed to a brick on the wall of SYSC house. Your plate may be made out in your name or company, or in the name of a loved one. In-kind donations, like building materials and equipments will also be accepted. (See our wish list).
