"It takes a whole village to raise a child" - African Proverb
Meaning: That child upbringing is a communal effort. The responsibility for raising a child is shared with the larger family.
Creating Hope for Children and Youth

Shauri Yako Community Youth Support Centre (SYSC) is a registered community based organization, located in Nyeri, Kenya. SYSC was created to provide development opportunities, support systems for children and youth living in poverty in Shauri Yako, Manjengo and Kiawara slums. Nyeri town is a provincial headquarter located near the foot of Mt. Kenya, the communities, we serve are slum settlements, whose population live below poverty level. They lack essential social services, youth support and economic opportunities necessary for youth to grow in good health and to become independent adults.

SYSC is committed to eradicating extreme poverty. We work with vulnerable children, youth and women who face hunger, HIV/AIDS pandemic or social isolation to address their needs and hopes. In partnership with donors, help from supporters and friends, SYSC strives to create and provide development, support programs and community services that empower people. In addition, SYSC works in collaboration with other like-minded organizations to share ideas, resources and advocacy for youth.

On this website, we provide information on SYSC, our work, the people we serve, program activities and how you can get involved.

Employ our Youth

Youth unemployment is a national problem. For our youth, however, the situation is even more severe.

We help our youth prepare and gain skills for employment and find jobs. We need employers to give our youth real opportunities to improve their lives, by providing internship placements and employment. SYSC strives to provide skills training for youth, including leadership, computer and is currently seeking for funds to implement hair dressing, visual arts, painting and pottery skills training programs that can help youth create self employment. Our programs aim to provide youth with the support and tools they need to find and maintain employment.

If you would like more information on how you can help or to support our skills training program, please contact us at: shauriyakoyouth@yahoo.com, Tel: + 0772-426034.
