About SYSC
Shauri
Yako Community Youth Support Centre (SYSC) is a community-based
organization located in Nyeri, Kenya. Founded in 1996, SYSC is
registered with the Kenyan government's Ministry of Gender, Sports,
Culture and Social Services. SYSC is committed to youth and community
development as a means to alleviate poverty of marginalized people
through the supportive programs.
The SYSC program purpose is
to support and to create development opportunities for underprivileged
residents of the Nyeri Municipality, with a focus on vulnerable youth
and women who take care of children. SYSC works at the grass root level
and provides the following programs: outreach, support, skills
training, school enrolment, HIV/AIDS voluntary counselling and testing,
home care, youth mentoring, counselling, drop-in, sports and community
services.
SYSC work is inline with the Millennium Development
Goals set out by the United Nations and acts in support of the global
campaign to Make Poverty History. SYSC believes that progress towards
poverty alleviation will take place only if these recommendations will
be fully implemented and partnerships developed for committed action.
The aim is to reduce youth poverty, HIV/AIDS and create social and
economic development opportunities for youth and women who care for the
children, helping them to become self-sufficient and able to contribute
to their community. We do this by providing children, youth and women
with development programs and outreach services.
At SYSC, we:
- We reach out to vulnerable youth and women
- We show them, that we care and build their trust
- We support them and help them learn skills
- We teach them how to make good choices
- We create hope for them
- We support and empower poor single mothers who have no means to provide for their children
Our values
A number of values guide the work of SYSC:
- We believe in the importance of children growing up in good health, in peace and in a safe environment
so that they can become productive members of their communities.
- We believe that everyone has a responsibility and capacity to contribute to creating better communities
and a better world.
- We value equitable living of all people of all races.
- We value cooperation and collaboration with other like-minded organizations.
Mission
SYSC's mission is to improve the quality of life for people living in poverty in Nyeri communities, with a special

community services.
Goals
Our goal is to improve the lives of children, youth and families through the provisions of programs and services that
will result in social and economic development opportunities. We believe that services offering stability to children,

Through our initiatives, we:
- Reduce social isolation among children and youth.
- Help children and youth to realize their potential and create development opportunities for them
- Support poor families to reduce the risk of children being forced to streets and helping keep families together.
- Reduce the HIV/AIDS infection rate.
